The BEDS Lab, led by Dr. Ariel Williamson, conducts research to better understand and treat child sleep problems and sleep health disparities in partnership with primary care clinicians, schools, and community organizations.
We take a socio-ecological approach to understanding child sleep, which means we look at how multiple factors at different levels (individual child, family, school, healthcare system, neighborhood, socio-cultural context) influence child sleep health, sleep disparities, and developmental outcomes. Our intervention research involves using implementation science principles and community-engaged methods to adapt, implement, and evaluate behavioral sleep interventions for children and families. To do this, we partner with clinicians, families, and schools to ensure intervention components and delivery strategies are appropriate, acceptable, and feasible for children, families, and interventionists.
The overall goal of our work is to ensure children and families have access to effective and equitable sleep interventions.
